BIIAB Award in Conflict Management (ACM) FAQ's
How long is the course?
1 day (09.30 - 17.00). The multiple choice examination takes place at 16.00 on the day of the course.
Where and when are the courses run?
We run courses for our corporate clients throughout the UK, either at our clients own workplace or at one of our established Training Centres. Where we are training at our clients premises, we are required to register the training facility with the BIIAB in order to meet our Quality Assurance standards. We perform this process on behalf of our clients at no additional cost to them.

What is the BIIAB Award in Conflict Management (ACM)?
The Award in Conflict Management is a qualification designed for individuals working within the Licensed Retail Sector (pubs, bars, nightclubs, off-licenses, supermarkets, hotels etc.) who face conflict in their workplace.
The course teaches candidates the elements of managing and resolving conflict in all its forms. These include bullying, harassment, disorderly behaviour, aggression and violence.

Who should attend this course?
The Award in Conflict Management is designed specifically for the Licensed Retail Sector and those people working at any level within it. Door supervisors receive conflict management training as part of the National Certificate for Door Supervisors (NCDS), but it is well recognised that they alone can not resolve all the problems that may arise. By introducing the subject to other employees within your organisation and to those in premises that don’t employ door supervisors, the Award in Conflict Management can help to reduce the levels of conflict in your workplace.
The Award in Conflict Management is suitable for any employee within the licensed retail sector and should be considered a pre-requisite for key employees such as supervisors and managers.
The Award in Conflict Management is ideal for candidates who want to build on their nationally recognised portfolio of BIIAB qualifications.
What does the course cover?
The law relating to violence at work • risk assessment • risk reduction • dynamic risk assessment • responses to threat • the basics of communication • non-verbal communication • defusing high-risk conflict • support and learning from conflict
What is the outcome of the course?
Candidates will be able to identify conflict as it develops and take measures to resolve it before it escalates. This understanding will also allow teams from different sections of your organisation to work more closely together and develop a co-ordinated approach to reducing the impact of conflict on your business.
On successfully completing the Award in Conflict Management and passing the associated examination, candidates will receive a certificate from the BIIAB. The course will provide them not only with a nationally recognised qualification but also with the skills and knowledge to work more safely and professionally towards reducing conflict in their workplace.
How is the course assessed?
The course is assessed via a multiple choice examination. In order to be awarded their certificate candidates must attend all sessions of the training and pass the examination. The pass mark for the examination is 23 out of 30.
Once completed, examination papers are returned to the BIIAB to be marked. The BIIAB allow themselves five working days to communicate the results to us; although to date the longest notification time has been 48 hours. We aim to inform candidates of their results by phone or by email the same day.
Certificates are sent to us from the BIIAB within 10 working days of the results notification and we aim to forward these by first class post to our clients, within 48 hours of them being received by us.
Who accredits the course?
The course is accredited by the BIIAB. Beyond The Blue are approved to administer training and examinations by the BIIAB.

A comprehensive course handbook is provided to each candidate when they register on the course to enable them to complete 'open learning' prior to training. 'Open learning' consists of candidates reading through the course handbook prior to attending the course. Our courses are designed to be interactive and to take a full part in the course candidates should be familiar with the content of the course handbook; this also results in better examination results as exams are based on this content.
