The National Certificate for Licensees - Drugs Awareness is designed to allow professionals working within the licensed retail sector to recognise and respond to the problems faced throughout the sector by the possession, use and dealing of illegal drugs. By understanding legislation in relation to the use of illegal drugs on licensed premises, it also allows personal licence holders and premises licence holders to operate within the law, by enforcing effective prevention strategies. The course provides not only the latest information and trends in the 'drugs scene', but also covers strategies for candidates to put effective measures into place to protect their premises. It uncovers the myths and uncomfortable truths that surround the drugs culture and allows business to genuinely strive towards a drug free environment; through enforcement of zero tolerance and other proactive prevention strategies. Who should attend this course? The course is designed to be effective for all employees working in licensed premises, both in city centres and in the countryside. It is well documented that the drug problem is not limited to any one area or one type of premises. Employees across all forms of licensed premises can benefit from the training to improve the levels of vigilance and discourage those using drugs from promoting their activities through your premises. The course is especially useful for personal licence holders, designated premises supervisors, bar supervisors, and front-line staff. Having an integrated training strategy in dealing with drugs throughout your premises allows you to provide a more secure working environment, which in turn leads to a more profitable business. The law and trends relating to illegal drugs • Drug related legislation • Drug problems particular to licensed premises • Operational guidelines for devising a drugs strategy • Keeping drugs out of licensed premises • Public safety issues where drug misuse occurs on licensed premises and guidelines for dealing with drug dealers • What is the outcome of the course? Candidates will be able to identify illegal drugs in their various forms and well as drug paraphernalia and drug litter. This will allow candidates to monitor the scale of any problem they may have and allow them to use proactive strategies to reduce and ultimately eliminate any drug use on their premises. On successfully completing the National Certificate for Licensees - Drugs Awareness and passing the associated examination, candidates will receive a certificate from the BIIAB. The course will provide them not only with a nationally recognised qualification but also with the skills and knowledge to work towards a drug free workplace. How is the course assessed? The course is assessed via a short 25 minute, 30 question multiple-choice examination; candidates must attend all sessions of the training and achieve 24/30 in their examination in order to pass and to be awarded their certificate. Once completed, examination papers are returned to the BIIAB to be marked. The BIIAB allow themselves five working days to communicate the results to us; although to date the longest notification time has been 48 hours. We aim to inform candidates of their results by phone or by email the same day. Certificates are sent to us from the BIIAB within 10 working days of the results notification and we aim to forward these by first class post to our clients, within 48 hours of them being received by us. Who accredits the course? The course is accredited by the BIIAB. Beyond The Blue are approved to administer training and examinations by the BIIAB. The BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Licensees - Drug Awareness is endorsed by the government and is accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) as a level 2 qualification. Level 2 means it is a qualification which supports employment progression. The qualification counts towards other BIIAB qualification schemes. Why choose Beyond The Blue as your training provider? Additional information Our training uses different training tools to allow candidates to identify and recognise illegal drugs and drug litter. This includes the use of our Drug Box which provides candidates with an effective visual representation of all the main illegal drugs they are likely to encounter in the process of their work. A comprehensive course handbook is provided to each candidate when they register on the course to enable them to complete 'open learning' prior to training. 'Open learning' consists of candidates reading through the course handbook prior to attending the course. Our courses are designed to be interactive and to take a full part in the course candidates should be familiar with the content of the course handbook; this also results in better examination results as exams are based on this content. To complement our professional training and the course handbook, we provide candidates attending our courses with a selection of comprehensive course hand-outs. These come together to form a training folder candidates can refer back to, in order to refresh their skills and knowledge. Candidates are required to provide a form(s) of identity in order to sit the examination. For a full list of acceptable forms of identity please download Examination Identity Requirements (pdf document). We also run bespoke Drugs Awareness Courses (DA) for clients with a specifc training need. This allows us to design a course based on a Training Needs Analysis (pdf document) we carry out for our clients.
