The National Certificate for Door Supervisors is the industry standard course for anyone wishing to work as a door supervisor in the Licensed Retail Sector (pubs, bars, nightclubs etc.).Candidates must have achieved this qualification in order to apply to the Security Industry Authority (SIA) for their Door Supervisors Licence (badge) to practice. For more details please see National Certificate for Door Supervisors Training (NCDS) Who should attend this course? The course is directed at anyone over the age of 18 wishing to work as a door supervisor in the licensed retail sector. It has the added advantage that anyone with a door supervisor licence can also work as a security guard in the retail or static guarding sector. Those people who achieve a security guarding licence can NOT work as a door supervisor. There are no short cuts; anyone working in the capacity of a door supervisor even under a different title must hold a Door Supervisor Licence. This also applies to those employees undertaking the role 'traditionally' performed by door supervisors as part of their 'other duties'. The National Certificate for Door Supervisors is a qualification which managers, doormen, supervisory staff and others should seriously consider if they undertake any of the 'traditional' door supervisor duties such as refusing entry to or removing disruptive customers. What does the course cover? Unit 1 The roles and responsibilities of door supervisors – the role of the door supervisor • behavioural standards • customer service skills • health and safety at work • civil and criminal law • the law in relation to licensing • equal opportunities • young persons • how to comply with regulations as a door supervisor • searching people • eviction and ejection • offensive weapons • first aid & emergencies • drugs • arrest • incident recording and scene preservation • Unit 2 Conflict management for door supervisors – introduction to communication skills and conflict management • self awareness • avoiding conflict • effective communication and customer service skills • recognising and defusing conflict • maintaining space • defusing high risk conflict • resolving and learning from conflict • What is the outcome of the course? Candidates will gain the core skills and knowledge to work effectively and professionally in the capacity of a door supervisor. They will understand the role and responsibilities of the door supervisor and be able to respond to conflict situations in a professional and proactive manner, to reduce and eliminate conflict and Workplace Violence before it arises and resolve it effectively when they encounter it. On successfully completing the National Certificate for Door Supervisors and passing both the associated examinations, candidates will receive 2 certificates from the BIIAB. This qualification makes candidates eligible to apply to the SIA for their Door Supervisor Licence. The course will provide them with the industry standard, nationally recognised qualification. How is the course assessed? The course is broken into 2 units. Each unit is assessed via a short 60 minute, 40 question multiple choice examination.. Candidates must attend all sessions of the training and achieve 28/40 on the unit 1 examination and 24/40 on the unit 2 examination, in order to pass and to be awarded their certificates. Once completed, examination papers are returned to the BIIAB to be marked. The BIIAB allow themselves five working days to communicate the results to us; although to date the longest notification time has been 48 hours. We aim to inform candidates of their results by phone or by email the same day. Certificates are sent to us from the BIIAB within 10 working days of the results notification and we aim to forward these by first class post to our clients, within 48 hours of them being received by us. Who accredits the course? The course is accredited by the BIIAB. Beyond The Blue are approved to administer training and examinations by the BIIAB. The BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Door Supervisors is approved by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) endorsed by the government and is accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) as a level 2 qualification. These come together to form a training folder candidates can refer back to, in order to refresh their skills and knowledge.
