What is In-House Security Induction (IHSI)?

In-House Security Induction provides candidates with further premises specific training, to complement statutory training requirements, as recommended by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). The course focuses on security procedures and systems specific to your premises and examines subjects not covered in the National Certificate for Door Supervisors (NCDS) course. It also reviews subjects covered during the National Certificate for Door Supervisors in more detail and with reference to the specific systems employed at the premises where the candidates will be employed. The SIA advises employers that the NCDS should act simply as a basic training requirement for door supervisors and further premises specific training should be given by employers on their own working environment.

The course is suitable for clients who want to employ security staff or door supervisors in-house rather than contracting-in and who want to benefit from the cost reductions and greater control this can offer; or premises which operate under club premises certificates and take advantage of the 'loophole' allowing them to employ security staff and door supervisors who do not require an SIA Door Supervisors Licence.

For more details please see In-House Security Induction Training (IHSI).

Who should attend this course?

The In-House Security Induction course is designed to provide premises specific training to employees working as security personnel or door supervisors.

The course is suitable for security personnel and door supervisors working on premises operated under a club premises certificate who are not required to hold an SIA accredited licence.

The course is also ideal to familiarise employees in other areas of your business including; bar staff, bar supervisors, managers, stewards, fire marshals, box office staff, cloakroom staff; with an understanding of the security systems in place at your premises and other related security subjects. This allows all employees to co-operate and work in harmony to enhance the service you can offer your customers.

The employer will have fulfilled their responsibility to provide premises specific training and have complied with the SIA recommendation that all licensed staff should receive this additional training. This gives the employer a strong due diligence defence in the case of prosecution.

Along with the skills and knowledge to work more safely, effectively and professionally in their workplace, candidates will provide a more professional approach to their duties, which in turn will allow them to provide a better level of service to your customers.

On successfully completing the In-House Security Induction course, candidates will receive an individually numbered certificate of completion from Beyond The Blue.

How is the course assessed?

There is no examination and candidates are awarded the certificate for successfully completing the course, providing they take a full and active part throughout all sessions and satisfy the instructor of their comprehension of all the subjects covered.

This course is suitable for premises currently running under a club premises certificate who are taking advantage of the 'loophole' which allows them to employ security staff and door supervisors without the need for them to be SIA licensed. This 'loophole' does not exempt them from providing effective suitable training for employees and our In-House Security Induction course can be developed specifically to meet these requirements.

For door supervisors the statutory training is the National Certificate for Door Supervisors (NCDS) and unlicensed staff expected to work in similar roles in a premises running under a club premises certificate, have the right to be trained to the same standard or better. Our courses help achieve this standard as well as allowing us to focus on premises specific security systems and operating procedures.

In-House Security Induction courses can be delivered as part of a wider Consultancy Project (Security Industry) where Beyond The Blue examine and develop security systems and operating procedures for our clients, which are specific to their premises.
