SIA Door Supervisor Licence

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is the government department tasked with regulating the security industry and awarding individuals with their SIA Door Supervisor Licence (Badge).

To be awarded a door supervisor licence candidates must have completed a National Certificate for Door Supervisors (NCDS) course and passed the associated examinations. The BIIAB accredit the Level 2 National Certificate for Door Supervisors Course (NCDS) and Beyond The Blue are approved to deliver training and administer the examinations.

Candidates who have attended the course and passed the exams can Apply directly to the SIA for a door supervisor licence. Licences are awarded to all those who meet the criteria (at least 18 years old and the holder of a NCDS Certificate), satisfactorily complete a criminal background check and who provide all the relevant supporting documents. A door supervisor licence is required by anyone working in the Licensed Retail Sector as a door supervisor. Those people awarded the SIA door supervisor licence are eligible to work in the licensed retail sector, as a security guard in non-licensed premises and in a retail / static guarding capacity; those holding a security guarding licence are NOT eligible to work in the licensed retail sector as door supervisors.

Anyone working without a door supervisor licence as a door supervisor or security guard in any licensed premises (with the exception of certain registered clubs), places their business and their employer in danger of facing the substantial penalties that this action carries. These include up tp six months imprisonment and / or £5000 fine for the individual and an unlimited fine and / or five years imprisonment for employers.
