Fire Safety (FS) Training

For answers to the most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on the specifics of this course please visit Fire Safety FAQs.

Fire is one of the most destructive risks to any business. The effects of a serious fire can bring even the most secure business to its knees for an extended period; not to mention the potential human cost of such disasters.

Most modern buildings now come with sophisticated fire detection systems, but many older ones still have antiquated systems that have not been tested or maintained for years. Whichever of these scenarios best describes your premises, training must still be the core component of your fire safety procedures.

Despite the destructive nature of fire, some businesses still choose to cross their fingers in relation to fire safety or buy 'off the shelf'' Fire Risk Assessments simply to 'tick the box'. Some of these are so generic in their nature that they simply do not reflect the actual working environment and are often not even read by employees. Our Fire Risk Assessments are real 'living documents' that not only outline the specific details of your premises, but provide the explanations behind the requirements to make them comprehendible.

One key factor which every Fire Risk Assessment must contain to conform with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, is a requirement for all employees to receive suitable Fire Safety (FS) training.

Our Fire Safety courses are designed to be suitable for all employees. The emphasis of this half day course is fire safety, fire prevention and fire evacuation. We also examine the fire fighting equipment available to candidates in their workplace.

Our approach to fire safety is to ensure first and foremost that candidates understand the fundamentals of fire and therefore how it can be prevented. We then examine the priority of ensuring all employees, visitors and customers are safely evacuated and that the professionals (in the form of your local fire brigade) are called to attend and to do what they do best.

We always research our client's needs through a Training Needs Analysis (pdf document), this ensures that our course reflects the client's specific needs; we do not just deliver generic courses that may not represent the actual place of work.

The course runs over half a day (3 hours) and will provide all candidates with an understanding of their role within a fire evacuation or on discovering a fire. But more importantly we train them to understand the gravity of fire and the threat to your business and the safety and welfare of those in your premises. We emphasise the individual responsibility that each employee has and ensure they understand how to act in a safe manner to reduce the risk of a fire occurring in the first place.

Our fire safety course structure reflects this emphasis on prevention rather than fighting fire. The following is a summary of topics covered from a course we run for one of our clients:

  • Welcome
  • Health & Safety Briefing • Introductions • Identification of learning objectives •
  • Health & Safety
  • Health & Safety at Work Act • Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 • Fire Risk Assessment •

Our fire safety courses are designed to complement your Fire Risk Assessment. If you currently do not have a Fire Risk Assessment for your premises, we can develop one for you as part of a Consultancy Project (Fire Safety). This process makes your working environment safer and helps you comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. As part of this process we design your evacuation procedure and can also run or assist with evacuation drills, as part of your fire safety procedures.
