What is the BIIAB Level 2 Award in Conflict Management for Licensed Premises Staff Course?
The Award in Conflict Management is a qualification designed for anyone working on licensed premises (pubs, clubs, bars, hotels, restaurants, events industry etc.), to help them identify and minimise the impact of conflict, threatening behaviour, aggression and violence in the workplace.
Licensed premises attract a disproportionate level of conflict, aggression and violence and the Licensing Act makes specific reference to ‘conflict on licensed premises’ and the importance of combating its impact, through its ‘Prevention of Crime & Disorder’ licensing objective.
Premises licensed holders and their representatives have a duty to assess the risks posed by violence in the workplace and failure to put sufficient proactive and reactive measures in place to prevent conflict can lead to prosecution for the offence of ‘allowing disorderly conduct on licensed premises’; which carries a level 3 fine of £1000 and the possibility of a review of the premises licence.
The Award in Conflict Management is designed to allow professionals working within the sector to recognise and respond to the problems faced by conflict. Training is acknowledged as one of the primary means of promoting the licensing objectives.
By delivering an understanding of the legislation in relation to conflict on licensed premises, the Award in Conflict Management allows premises licence holders and designated premises supervisors to protect their premises licence; by enforcing a zero tolerance policy and implementing proactive prevention strategies.
The course teaches learners the essential elements of managing and resolving conflict in all its various forms including; bullying, abuse, harassment, threatening behaviour, disorderly conduct, aggression and violence.
Learners will be able to identify conflict as it develops and take measures to resolve it before it escalates. This understanding will allow everyone within your organisation to work more closely together and develop a co-ordinated proactive approach to reducing the impact of conflict on your business.
