What is the BIIAB Level 1 Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing / ARAR course?

The BIIAB Level 1 Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing is a qualification designed for front-line staff working on licensed premises (pubs, clubs, bars, events industry etc.), to help them sell alcohol responsibility and promote the licensing objectives.

The ARAR covers the knowledge required by staff who are authorised by the Personal Licence Holder or Designated Premises Supervisor to sell alcohol.

The course examines the nature of alcohol, the law in relation to the Responsible Retailing of Alcohol and the importance of the licensing objectives in the context of the Licensing Act 2003.

Sale of Alcohol to Young People - In this very important area, the course examines our unique 4 step process to prevent underage sales which works in conjunction with your Challenge 21 / Challenge 25 policy; when properly enforced this provides a safeguard against test purchases by the police and weights & measures officers.

The BIIAB Level 1 Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing is a nationally recognised qualification and the industry standard. It affords more protection to employers and their premises licence, as it strengthens the defence of due diligence where prosecutions may affect continued operations. This is because the examination contains 3 mandatory questions which demonstrate that every candidate understands the relevant legislation concerning underage sales, serving people who are drunk and the licensing objectives.

What does the Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing / ARAR cover?

What is alcohol and how does it affect us? • Licensing law • Protection of children • Social responsibilities • Recognising drunkenness and your duty not to serve • Dealing with alcohol-related crime and conflict •
