National Certificate for Door Supervisors Course Overview
Door supervisors in UK are required to hold a Door Supervisors Licence issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work on any premises licensed for the supply and consumption of alcohol or where regulated entertainment is provided.
To be eligible to apply for this licence you must complete the National Certificate for Door Supervisors (NCDS) course and pass all the associated examinations.
Anyone who holds a Door Supervisor Licence can work both on licensed premises and in a static / retail guarding position. Those holding a Security Guarding licence may not work on licensed premises.
We deliver the National Certificate for Door Supervisors for individual candidates in London and the South East and for groups throughout the UK.
The National Certificate for Door Supervisors is designed to be delivered in an interactive way and we strongly believe that this is the only effective way to teach this course.
We only train in small groups to enable our tutors to work closely with each candidate and allow them the time and individual attention to learn and practice the skills until they are proficient.
Our training is based on a variety of training methods and includes open learning, classroom based learning, scenario based learning, group work and interactive discussion; this approach allows us to meet the preferred learning styles of all candidates.
The course is broken down into two units with examinations at the end of each unit:
Unit 1: The roles and responsibilities of door supervisors
Unit 2: Conflict management for door supervisors
We train door supervisors to perform with their head first and only take physical action when all other options have been exhausted. Through our Physical Intervention courses we train candidates in low-impact professional physical intervention techniques for those occasions when Conflict Management skills are no longer effective.
The course structure follows the BIIAB handbook which accompanies the course (cost £15 + vat). This is provided to each candidate when they register on the course to enable them to complete 'open learning' prior to training. 'Open learning' consists of candidates reading through the course handbook prior to attending the course.
Our courses are designed to be interactive and to take a full part in the course candidates should be familiar with the content of the course handbook; this also results in better examination results as exams are based on this content.
Since the establishment of the SIA, the security industry has developed mandatory training and we continue to work towards further professional development of the industry.
The image of the 'Bouncer' as a thug intent on violence, is now truly outdated and successful businesses now appreciate the benefits of sector specific training and the employment of professional Door Supervisors.
