Course Description – BIIAB Level 2 Award in Food Safety
Every day, in the UK, over 2800 people contract food poisoning. ‘Minor’ food safety offences can attract a maximum fine of £5000 and / or a prison term of up to 6 months, whereas ‘serious’ food safety offences carry an unlimited fine and /or prison terms of up to 2 years; business closure can also be ordered as a consequence of food safety breaches.
The BIIAB Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering examines the basic rules for all food handlers and acts not only to reduce the incidence of food poisoning and protect businesses from prosecution, but also meets the legal requirement for all food handlers to receive suitable food hygiene training.
Food Safety training provides all food handlers with the knowledge and practical skills to reduce the risks involved in food and drink production, preparation and delivery.

Target Learners - The BIIAB Level 2 Award in Food Safety qualification is designed for all employees who handle or prepare food and / or drink (drinks are classified as a ‘food’ for the purpose of food safety legislation) in their workplace.
Assessment Criteria - Level 2 Award in Food Safety
The Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering is assessed via a short 25 minute, 20 question multiple-choice exam; learners must achieve 14/20 in their exam in order to pass and to be awarded their certificate.
Once completed, Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering exam papers are returned to the BIIAB to be marked. We aim to inform learners of their results within 48 hours of their examination.
Qualification Accreditation – BIIAB Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering
The Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering is accredited by the BIIAB; on successfully passing the associated examination, learners will receive a BIIAB qualification certificate.
The qualification is accredited by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) as a level 2 qualification.
